Do I need my own boat or canoe to go down the Great Waterway Loop of Wielkopolska?
No. You can choose from the offers of one of the many charter companies, which have both small boats – perfect for a weekend cruise for two, and larger vessels where you will comfortably spend a family vacation. If you prefer kayaks, there are many rentals and kayaking companies too. The package includes not only the equipment, but also transport and even a bonfire at the end.
How long does it take to circumnavigate the Great Waterway Loop of Wielkopolska?
It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to cover the Loop by a motorboat – it depends on the length of the stops and the time you spend on the water each day. You can also cut the cruise into smaller sections. A week on the water is often enough to fully appreciate all the charms of Wielkopolska.
Can you sail on a sailboat on the Great Waterway Loop of Wielkopolska?
Due to low bridges, sailing in many places is impossible. If you want to go sailing, the best choice will be the lakes located in the vicinity of Konin: Ślesińskie, Mikorzyńskie, Licheńskie and Gopło. There are several marinas on their shores and you can easily rent a sailboat. From other places in Wielkopolska, we also recommend for sailing Lake Powidzkie and Lake Błędno.
How do I know if all the locks are open?
Up-to-date and first-hand information can be found on the website of the Polish Water Holding. You may also make a call to one of the marinas, as they always keep in touch with the newest information.
Where is the best place to start a cruise?
Your best to choice would be one of the large marinas that are fully equipped and have experienced employees, who will be happy to help you prepare for the cruise. We recommend marinas in Czarnków, Drawsko and Nakło (on the Noteć River), in Ślesin (on the Ślesiński Canal) and in Ląd, Nowe Miasto and Czerwonak (on the Warta River).
Do I need special qualifications to charter a boat?
Currently, no special qualifications or courses are needed to operate smaller vessels on inland waterways in Poland. However, it is best to ask the charter company directly for details.
Is the Great Waterway Loop of Wielkopolska difficult as a canoeing trail?
No, sailing on the Warta and Noteć is relatively simple and hassle-free. There are no obstacles on both rivers, such as sunken logs or dams. The current is not strong, but you should bear in mind that the Warta is a large river and the distance from the center of the current to the shore may be several meters. There are also 14 locks on the Noteć river.
